A retrospective of Dmitry Prigov's work will open at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art.

Published: May 8, 2008

Dmitry Prigov was many things before he died last year. Trained as a sculptor, he worked as an architect and became a well-known poet and artist. His poetry, often linked to current affairs, was distributed as samizdat during Soviet times. He was briefly institutionalized in the '80's by the KGB for the dissident nature of his work. By 2005 Prigov said he had written 36,000 poems and completed many artworks, including video installations. A wide range of his works are on display from May 13 at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, located at 17 Yermolayevsky Pereulok.
